The David Doig Foundation is once again delighted to be supporting the Sustainable Communities Initiative to continue their work. Established in 2000, they work with community groups, disadvantaged families, young people and schools to support social and environmental sustainability. They deliver outdoor mentoring, well-being projects, and storytelling projects, and manage an eco-centre where they offer a range of educational experiences. Their work develops skills such as mindfulness, meditation, creative writing and simple nature-based crafts, encouraging people to live in a more sustainable way.
This award will be used towards increasing their capacity as an organisation to meet growing demand, by providing staff with training to enable them to continue to deliver a high standard of work, and to expand their work with their existing teenage group who have been engaged with Sustainable Communities Initiatives for several years but are now approaching adulthood and are actively considering life choices, paths and careers. They will be researching how to best implement a sixth and final year for their current teenage groups, specifically for their current 17 and 18 year olds, and looking at how apprenticeships in Traditional Skills might fit in as an opportunity for this group.
